The kayaking activities at Oribi Gorge are performed at the free river of Mtentweni. Oribi Gorge has a 110-meter abseil in which the first 45-meter is a cliff abseil wherein feet are against it. Beginners are also welcome for this activity and provided with instructions beforehand.
Whether going for half-day or full-day water rafting, there are two available routes on the Umzimkulu River. The first route is a relaxed paddle where every tourist can enjoy the birdlife and sceneries. It has three moderate rapids for some excitement. The second route has more challenging obstacles and rapids of 2 to 4 depending on the river level. Trips for these two routes are provided with lunch and refreshments at the Oribi Gorge Hotel. Just like activities at the gorge, the rafting trips are led by qualified guides that operate the entire year. During low-level months, tubes are used instead of rafts. Per trip is only required of four people and advanced bookings would be necessary.
Hiking is one of the popular activities for tourists at Oribi Gorge possibly because of the numerous accessible hiking trails in the area. Along the edge of the gorge are the easy 1-kilometer walk of Camel Trail and Baboon’s Trail. For people of average fitness, the 1-2 hour walk at the Lehr’s Trail is the best. This trail is located at the bottom of Lehr’s Falls but not recommended for children below seven years old.
